Reading Jump Start
So, I've been in a reading funk. Nothing I pick up interests me and it doesn't seem to matter what it is. So, I tried an old standby...Harry Potter. I finished this one tonight after starting it last night. I'll probably read all seven and then my reading appetite will be back (and hey, I gotta get that reading in now, while I can!)
Also, this book inspired the following conversation from the one who "doesn't read"
A: You're pretty into that book, hey?
S: Yup! You should read it when I'm done.
A: Maybe...
S: It's good. I think you'd like it.
A: Well, okay. I guess.
S: Excellent. Promise?
A: Yeah, I promise. Add it to the pile.
S: thinking : Woohoo! Got the anti-Harry Potter guy to agree to read the book. Mmmm...
A: Hey, I didn't just agree to read Harry Potter, did I?
HAHAHA! Once he reads it, I'm sure he'll be hooked. He didn't want to watch the movies, but in a moment of weakness when I was recovering last winter he agreed to watch the first one with me...which led to conversations that went like this "When can we rent the rest of them?!?!?!?!"

Missing Patch
I rented a movie tonight and since we don't have a couch yet, the only place to sit in the living room is the rocking chair and I couldn't see myself sitting in the rocking chair for the duration of a movie...but, I did have my work computer at home, so I thought I could curl up in bed with the computer and watch my movie. HA! Not likely. In the last six months the computer has had some issues, most of which started when it contracted a trojan. The sound has vanished, the settings change on their own and all kinds of other things. Apparently when they wiped the hard drive to get rid of the trojan, they forgot to install a patch that enables the DVD played to decode DVDs. And since it's a work computer, I don't have administrative prilividges...so out of luck on the movie watching. It explains a lot though...we had tried to watch a number of work-related DVDs a few months ago and they didn't work...we blamed it on the person who created the DVDs...seems that my computer actually needs to go back to the computer doctor for a check up.

Tea Pots
I just have a few....They go with all the tea I have. And once our couch arrives and the boxes are all emptied, I think I should have a tea party!!! If you look closely, you might be able to see me.

Traffic Jam
I had one of those mornings today where nothing seemed to go right. I had to pick some supplies up at the book store on the way to the office and since it doesn't open until 9:30, I got to sleep in a few extra minutes and leave the house later. And I did. And I was pretty much on time. And then I walked out the front door of the building and saw this. And got very wet. There were eight express buses and five or six trolleys in the two blocks in front of our house. And they just kept coming. I probably stood there for almost ten minutes with my mouth wide open, not sure how to get to work. Apparently the power lines in the next block where down across the street.
So I called work and said I'd get there when I could and went back upstairs to listen to the radio and see what was going on and think...about how the heck I was going to get to work. I had thought I'd just walk around it and catch a a bus on the other side, but then my still half asleep brain clicked in and I realized that once I got around the mess, the buses would still be stuck in front of our building. That's when I looked out the window and saw that the buses were now being re-routed down Burrard and up 4th Avenue. So off I went, in the wrong direction, jumped on a bus and probably got to work a lot faster since the bus didn't stop except to let people out (and there was a whole 6 people on the bus) until it got back on its normal route.
Oh they joys of public transit!

Laundry
Our new place has coin-operated laundry in the building which is a bit of a change for both of us. Alex has never lived in a building with coin-operated laundry before and I haven't since I lived in residence. The Blue House had coin operated machines, but it cost 50 cents and we got to use the same two quarters over and over again...this little pile of coin represents two loads of laundry, if we're lucky...sigh...the joys of moving...(yeah, yeah, I know we were spoiled before!)

Air Drumming
What you can't see in the blur that is Rebecca (or her arms at least) are the air drumming drumsticks I got Alex for Christmas. Much fun, much fun!! (And what's with Rebecca and the blurred arms!?!?!)

No Stopping
Right...that's what that on the bottom left sign means...isn't it?! Anyway, I took this tonight...after witnessing a scene of blatant sign ignoring this morning which you can find over there. Some people!
