Turtle Speed
I feel like a turtle this morning. I want to pull my head inside my shell and go back to sleep and ignore the world completely. I also think I'm probably moving at a turtle's pace. I didn't sleep well last night, had a few nightmares, woke up yelling a couple of times, almost attacked Alex because in my nightmare induced stupor I didn't know who he was or what he was doing getting into my bed...it's almost like I'm on the lovely painkillers again...Anyway, off to trudge through the day...if you see me belly up, it means I've given up on today being a good day...

Engagement Celebration
Yeah, yeah, we know we're MONTHS late, but tonight we got dressed up and went to Provence for dinner to belatedly celebrate our engagement. Dinner was delicious!
Oh yeah, and we played with some photo effects...because we can...

Summer Is Coming
Summer in the eyes of a university student that is. When I was a student, seeing these walls erected in the courtyard outside the SUB filled me equally with excitement and dread. I was never "crazy" enough to participate in Storm the Wall, but the walls meant that four months of no school, no assignments, no quizzes, no exams, and much less stress was not that far off. Unfortunately they also meant that in order to get to the coveted summer break, I had to survive exams. Now they just mean that in a few weeks there will be no line for the bus and fewer people in front of me if I stop to get food on campus...subtle changes...

Chocolate Sprinkles For Toast And Cake In A Box
We went to De-Dutch for Fraser's birthday today and on the shelf in their waiting area, I discover chocolate sprinkles for toast, something Ellie introduced me to when I worked at Our Chalet. Not something I really ate, but when I saw them, I was totally reminded of Ellie!
Happy Birthday Fraser!

Random Don't-Know-What-I'm Aiming-At Saturday Excursion Pocket Shots
Another two picture day. Where else would you want to spend a rainy, yucky Saturday, but in IKEA's lighting department?!?! I'm a dork...because of the pocket shots, not because of IKEA.

Hidden Treasure, Forgotten, Or Lunch Break?
When I walked past the not-so-well-kept lavender along my path to work, I saw these blue handled clippers sticking out from under a bush. As I continued on my way, I wondered how they came to be there and figured that Plant Ops is probably trying to find the missing clippers because it's year end and they're likely doing an equipment inventory and are at least one pair of clippers short. I wondered if they were simply forgotten or if some gardener is going to come by for them later to add to his collection of tools for his own garden or to pick up for some other purpose...
I was still mulling it over when I saw this:
Freshly planted yellow things, an abandoned shovel, and a discarded hoe...so I checked my watch. Sure enough it was 11:30...time for lunch!
So much for my crazy theories, although the clippers were in a part of campus that didn't look like it had been worked on for days, so you never know!!

Fridge Funghi
But not the edible kind or the science project kind...these are my favourite magnets. Super strong, super colourful, super easy to make, and super mushroom-like.
I jinxed it just like I said I might. It's raining out.

Blue Sky
It's beautiful today and certainly feels like spring (shhh, I didn't say that because if the rain gods find out, they'll send rain again tomorrow). It's one of those nice spring days like the ones when I was living in Switzerland...the kind where the cold bites your cheeks and makes your eyes water like mad...

Spirit Of The West
YAY! I got a ticket...now I can go with Alex instead of sitting at home wishing I could be there!
PS once again see the pretty Galison paper in the back ground...the same stuff as last time in the back ground and the green stuff closer to the front!

Darkness
Late this afternoon we were minding our own business. I was writing some cards and Alex was doing some laundry and then, all of a sudden, the house was silent...and DARK...not too dark because the time changed this morning, but still, dark...
The entire house went dark, so we pulled out the radio with batteries and listened, but there was nothing about the power being out in our neighbourhood. Then I went out in the pouring rain and discovered ALL of our neighbours had their lights on.
Suspicious...it seemed a little strange that the whole house was out, so just in case it was a Hydro problem I called Hydro. It wasn't, but I'm glad I called because the nice lady told me how to get everything back on without blowing up the fuse box.
Of course the fuse box in not in our suite, K, our landlady, had gone out for the evening, and R, the downstairs neighbour in whose suite the fuse box resides, was also out. So we waited. And waited. All the while I was calling K.'s cell phone every few minutes and letting it ring and ring. The house started to get cold, so we dug out the fleece blankets and cozied up to listen to the Canucks lose to Anaheim. When it got really dark, I broke out the candles. The living room was actually fairly warm and quite light...might have had something to do with 25 candles I lit...good thing the smoke detector is wired into the house and couldn't start ringing!
Anyway, five hours after the ordeal started, R. came home and the two of use spent fifteen minutes trying to get the breakers all sorted out...we were about to give up and call Hydro again when we heard the furnace kick in! YAY!!!
Once again I am reminded how dependent we have become on electricity...we were about to play a round of Yahtzee while we waited because we couldn't do laundry or dishes or use the computer or cook...I think it would do us good to move into an electricity-free cabin the middle of nowhere for a while to prove to ourselves we really can cope ;)

Missing Focus
It was dark out when I took this picture...so dark that the autofocus couldn't focus.
It was rainy out when I took this...so rainy I wasn't going to stand there and fiddle around with the settings.
So every picture I took has blurry flowers, but a focused fence. But that's okay, that's sort of how I feel these days - I'm out of focus but the world around me isn't!

Toothpaste House
We pass this house when Alex drives me to the pool and the colour reminds me of toothpaste. I know my sisters and Fiona will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the house we grew up in was a more subdued shade of this colour...until my Dad spent at least an entire weekend transforming the house by painting it grey...It didn't look stuck in the 70s anymore. I guess these people really like this colour, because not only is the house still this colour, the entire house is this colour. Just the wooden boards on our house were this colour - no, I'm not talking about trim...I can't seem to find a picture of the house (I know I have at least one, SOMEWHERE!), but I\'ll post it when I find it...

Flowering Tea
Tasty!!!
Rebecca gave me a cool glass tea pot and flowering tea for Christmas. I was going to break the flowering tea out when she was here on the weekend, but I forgot...forgetfulness seems to be a leftover symptom of the painkillers. Anyway, there were a few flowering tea buds in the box, so after the heinous past two days, I decided tonight would be a good time to have a yummy, pretty flowering tea...And there's still some left, so Rebecca, you'll have to come back soon so we can share a pot!

Some Bedtime Reading
Well, the new Harry Potter book (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) has already made it to number one on a lot of best seller lists...and it's not published yet...and I'm not going to pre buy it, but I do have time to reread the other six books at least once before the July release date...

Bye Bye Puzzle
Yes, it's the puzzle again. And it's not finished.
My Mom and I worked really hard on this really difficult puzzle. It has lots of pieces and only two real colours...shades of white with brown mixed in...We got a lot done, but as the return the real world has started in the last few days, I stopped working on it.
The table is needed for a dinner party upstairs tomorrow, so I had to pack the puzzle away before it was done...I did measure every possible surface in the house, but nothing was big enough for the puzzle.
Ah well, I'll get it out again one day and maybe that time it will get completed! It was great entertainment!

Lazy Day
Today was one of those Sundays...you know the ones: sleep in, have a late breakfast with lots of coffee, hang out all day...a good kind of Sunday. Some of us even spent the whole day in our pjs...three guesses who that was!
We had a nice breakfast with Rebecca with fresh goodies from the bakery and a big, juicy pineapple. Rebecca left at 1:30 and we spent the rest of the day hanging out, doing laundry, and baking (okay, Alex did the laundry, I did the baking)...too bad tomorrow's Monday...I could use another Sunday!
Since I only ventured out to Safeway for an onion and some bread and Alex didn't leave the house, I guess today is self portrait day...and yes, I do look sleepy even though it was a lazy day...I think it's bedtime!

Griffins
My parents came back from Belize, meaning it was time for the requisite post-trip family meal, which is similar to the pre-trip family meal. This time Rebecca was in town to join me and Alex and the North Van Mulvis...brunch buffets are the best!
