What Will They Think Of Next?
Seriously.
I don't drink milk. I makes my tummy hurt and I don't like the taste. But even as a kid, when I did drink milk, mostly because I had to, I don't think making my milk taste like candy would have made me feel more inclined to drink it. And they wonder why there is an obesity epidemic happening.

Furniture Moves Again
We had a bit of a dilemma trying to furnish our dining room and kitchen. Last fall we found the perfect furniture, but it turned out to be defective. We tried all kinds of things, like other furniture and moving the kitchen table. It's been in the dining room for a couple of months now and this is the newest set up that I finished yesterday. I love the way the sun comes in through the windows in the mornings. I'm not sure if we like it yet (the chairs are a bit low for the table, but it was all furniture we already had), but it's an improvement over an old, unfunctioning computer in the kitchen.

Italian Sushi
Alex and I went out with my friend Shannon for sushi and ice cream tonight. This is the last of our weekly visits as she is heading back to Ontario on Saturday morning. It was so nice to spend time with her after seven years!
Anyway, this was one of Alex's rolls. I can't remember what it was called but it was prosciutto, mango, pesto, and balsamic vinegar...and very pretty too.

Is The End In Sight?
Because our recycling box and freezer are both getting pretty darn full...and most of the jars are up on a shelf. My parents were here a month ago and they took all of the recycling, garbage, and compost home with them then. This is a month's worth of recycling. We don't get the paper anymore, thank goodness, we'd be drowning in them. The freezer is full of garbage that would smell and compost, just in case we find someone who wants extra compost. If you know anyone, let us know! PLEASE!

Why Surprise?
Because, for only the third time all summer we actually had dinner on the back deck. A huge contrast to last summer when we ate most of our meals out there and spent most of the hours between after work and bed time relaxing with the urban wildlife. Alex was a bit confused when he came out of the basement for dinner and the table wasn't set. And I was insisting it was time to eat and the food was out. I hope the weather holds for a few more weeks. We love our deck and I missed spending time on it this summer. It was little chilly tonight, but nothing a sweater couldn't fix.

The Knitting Is Back
It must be getting colder. The knitting has reappeared...there's a bit of a deadline on this one too, but it's been too hot to have an afghan next to my skin. Maybe that drawer (okay, drawers) full of yarn that Alex loves so much will start to deplete itself (HA!). I started really knitting it again last night and I'm sure the frenzy will continue in the next few nights.

Owls
After dinner, at dusk, we were sitting in the back yard, relaxing in the new outdoor living room, when we heard an owl hooting. At first we thought it was real, but it went on for quite some time and so we decided maybe the neighbourhood kids were hooting. But then we saw two owls swoop over the house. They were large, horned owls of some variety and very beautiful (and noisy).

Gazing Ball
Just like last time I was home, the garden is a great place to spend the afternoon. I love coming home and hanging out in my parents' backyard. I wish I didn't have to go back to Vancouver, I love it so much!

Fireworks
Tonight was the last night of the Festival of Lights/Symphony of Fire (I can't remember what's called now) and a 25th Wedding Anniversary party for my aunt and uncle. So really, we figure the fireworks were celebrating them! This was taken from the North Shore, so far from the fireworks that we couldn't hear them.
UPDATE 05/08/09: There are now pictures of the anniversary on scribbles, scratches and scrawls.

Finger, Toes, Hamstrings, Grrr
Over there in blog land, you'll see I was lamenting my missing abdominal muscles. Over here, you can see how pathetically tight my hamstrings are.
That is the closest I've come to touching my toes since before puberty I think. When I first started physio in February, I could barely get to my knees (okay, so that wasn't entirely because of my hamstrings), but now I'm closer to my ankles.
My hamstrings are so tight and I am so inflexible. Apparently it runs in the family. My Dad and sister are just as inflexible as I am. One time I went to the gym for an assessment and one of the things they tested was my flexibility. I warned her that I was extremely inflexible, which she just laughed off with an "everyone says that" comment. HA! I got her, she thought I was kidding when I said I couldn't push the little shuttle thing any further. I was the most inflexible person she'd ever tested. I don't want to be the most inflexible...
I know I may never touch my toes, but that's my goal. I have a good half hour of stretches to do every morning and I hope that one day I'll be able to get down to my toes again.
