The Great Trek
This cairn, in the middle of campus, commemorates The Great Trek. The Great Trek was a 1922 student protest march that started in Fairview and ended on Point Grey with the students occupying the unfinished Science Building. The students were marching to protest delays in the constructing the campus. Of course, as a student I was completely unaware of the cairn, although I had heard of The Great Trek. I was there today partly because of a project our office is working on.

Old School
We have a new fangled tv in our house now, one that has a remote control and everything, but we still haven't gotten rid of the old one we used most of the time I was hurt...it's got dials and rabbit ears and everything. And it got better reception that the new tv...especially if you stood in exactly the right place in the room. Which, of course, was no where near the couch!

Brothers
We spent the afternoon and evening at Alex's parents' today, celebrating his birthday. Birthdays at his house traditionally mean a bunch of pictures, including one of the brothers.

Yep! I'm A Boy
It was Alex's birthday today and he came home from work with these beautiful balloons from some of his coworkers. One is a 25th Anniversary balloon, one is a Fiesta balloon, but my favourite is the blue, Yep! I'm a Boy balloon. Just in case, after thir-cough-cough years we had any doubts! And I love the look on his face...

The Walk To Work Is Lined With Flowers
Hence the multiple flower pictures over the past few weeks. That and the fact that unlike people, they don't move when you ask them to stand still so that you can take their picture. They are extremely obliging and will wait an eternity for me to stop taking pictures of them. Of course this also contributed to my delayed arrival at work this morning...only by a few minutes which is a miracle since my alarm did not go off. I guess I should be surprised. When I was in kindergarten and grade one, I went to the neighbourhood school and the ten minute walk home took me at least half an hour cause I had to look at everything along the way, even though I saw it twice a day. Obviously not much has changed.

It's Rhododendron Time
The rain actually stopped this afternoon, long enough for me to go for a long walk and then some. Summer is well on its way - the rhododendrons are in full bloom. This pretty one down the block from the house is trying to confuse people with its two shades of pink, but really, there its just two bushes that have grown around each other. Pretty though!

What Happens When The Boys Drink Sangria
Apparently Alex is supposed to be practicing for our wedding. I'm not sure why Tony's helping him practice, but they seem to be enjoying themselves!
Oh...and it looks like I had a much more exciting Saturday night than Friday night!!!

Friday Night Fun
Yeah, homework isn't really a definition of Friday night fun, but after a long week I was pooped tonight. So tired that I fell asleep during the six o'clock news. So I spent the rest of the evening trying to remember all new words I learned last night at my Italian class. I did pretty well. I have ten of those worksheets because my goal is to have the terms memorized by next Thursday.

Lady Grey
Heather came to stay for a few days on her way from London to Comox and brought us some goodies, one of which was a large tin of Lady Grey tea, one of my most favourite teas ever. Of course after having my camera everywhere I went with Virginia I didn't take a single picture (other than the spider and the swimming necessities) while Heather was here.

The Pool Reopens
Two things needed for a daily swim (besides the obvious bathing suit and towel) - a lock for the locker and a pool pass.
The pool had been closed for a month and it reopened this week. Today was my second day back in the pool and already my back is feeling better. I just need to remind myself not to over do it. Or get chlorine in my eyes, because this picture is not in focus, but maybe when I took it I thought it was because my vision was confused? I dunno...but it's all I've got for today...pathetic Shannon!

Home To Many Creatures
This is the big bushy tree in our back yard. There are bird houses in it, so we assume maybe some birds live there sometimes. We know the raccoons like it in there and we think possibly squirrels and maybe a strange rat live in there too.

Reminiscing
So, what do you do when old friends come to town? Well, all kinds of stuff like checking out some of the sights and attractions, eating too much, catching up on life, and of course, reminiscing. Well, that's what we did. Alex and I went out for dinner with Virginia tonight. We ate way to much and talked a whole lot. Then we came back to our house and Virginia and I broke out the photo albums from when we were in London together and when we travelled together in Australia. And then, just to make it all that, we called Paula in South Africa to wish her a happy birthday. Old friends are great! And Alex, well, he seemed to be scratching his head as we babbled on and on and on about places, people, and events he has never visited, never met, or didn't attend. Slowly, but surely I'm introducing him to those people...

Pens
I own pens. Many pens. More pens than most people. Like the yarn, they just keep multiplying, because you know, you need a different kinds of pen depending on what you're writing on, what you are writing, and sometimes even who you're writing for.
People have started giving me pens. All kinds of pens. I think this one, and maybe the flashing butterfly pen, is the most unique pen I own. And I don't really use it. It's rather fluffy and kind of angry looking. Maybe this pen is for writing angry letters and since I don't normally write angry letters that's why I don't use it. Yeah, that's it.

Spring Is Here
It finally feels like spring. I was even too warm with a t-shirt and hoodie on today. Thank goodness the multiple layers are gone (well, maybe not thank goodness, but the warmth is nice). It was such a beautiful afternoon and evening that I picked up some tulips for the kitchen on the way home. It's almost time to start deck planting and to get the umbrella for the table out! YAY!

Deadline Means No Procrastinating
I've mentioned before that I'm a bit of a procrastinator. Five years ago I went to Australia. My friend Virginia, who went on a long bus ride with me (aka a two week tour), is coming to Vancouver on Friday, so I decided today that I should get the pictures from that trip in an album BEFORE she gets here. This is the mess I've created so far. I've done two days of the trip and have about 45 days and 350 pictures to go...sigh...procrastinating is going to get me in trouble one of these days.

Squishy Face
Heddy and D came over last night for dinner. We hadn't seen them since before Christmas when they came to visit me when I was stuck at home (okay, so Heddy and I have seen each other, but the boys hadn't seen each other for a while). It was a great night with yummy food and of course some silliness...you gotta have the sillies!

To Insure Or Not To Insure
We've started the long process of cataloguing the stuff in our house. We have a lot of stuff. I'm kind of hoping in the process of taking pictures and writing down what we own and what the replacement value of each item is, we might be convinced to part with some of our stuff. I'm not quite ready to part with the little knit German doll Lorna made for me (it even has my initials on the beer stein), but I don't think it will be included in the list of insurable items. The lamp and the stereo yes, the doll and the candle, not likely.
