First Ice Cream Cone
This one is pretty self explanatory...we're at our big family reunion and there will be photos on the other blog soon...or soonish. Or something like that.

Heat Wave Food
Coleslaw and watermelon.
And we've been eating lots of Jell-o and popsicles.
I want to climb in the fridge and hang out with the food - just like when I lived in London. Except then we really did have a full sized walk-in fridge that three people fit comfortably in without having to remove any food!
Thankfully we're off to Kelowna tomorrow where it will be cooler. If only because my parents' house has central air conditioning and it probably won't be so horribly humid!

Escape Thwarted
Kelsey had a race this morning, so Rebecca, Jocelyn and I went to see her finish (oh, and missed her by seconds, but that's another story). While we waited for Kelsey before we headed off from brunch, Jocelyn hung out on this field. Where there were PUPPIES! And KIDS! And KIDS with BALLS! And Jocelyn was determined to get the yellow ball of the big kids were playing soccer with (you can see it behind us on the right). She came pretty close, but probably would have been run over by the kids if Mommy hadn't scooped her up at the last second!

Light Show
We just caught the tail end of the lightning storm as we headed back to Vancouver from Surrey (that's sunset with a bolt of lightning on the right...not an easy thing to capture, especially since we were driving down the highway at highway speed!) We waited until the rain had calmed down a bit before heading out - the thunder and lightning in Surrey were pretty spectacular too, although it sounds like the best light show of the evening was the combination of fireworks and lightning in Vancouver!!

How Many Clothes Does One Baby Need?
A lot apparently! These are all the ones Jocelyn has outgrown. I'm going to have to get a new Rubbermaid for all of them. I did have a clever plan and they are all sorted by size, but I think they're all just going in the tub when I get it...It took me a few hours to go through everything and I can't believe how tiny some of the things are. And how cute.

Maintaining Some Sanity
This little bottle is responsible for everyone in our house being alive tonight. Poor baby is trying to cut a tooth and Tylenol+baby = less whimpering = Mommy and Daddy not as grumpy = no one wanting to murder anyone else (usually between Mommy and Daddy who have great sympathy for poor baby!) Jocelyn has been asleep for three hours now, so the night is looking good...maybe the silly tooth is finally through!!

Fireworks
This is the view of the fireworks that we get from our deck. I might check out the view from the bedroom on Saturday, but I think the deck is the best vantage point and it's not the greatest view. Poor Jocelyn didn't like the fireworks. She cried out in her sleep whenever there were a bunch together and she's hating the people driving home and honking their horns (and the stupid person setting off firecrackers...)
Note to self: use the tripod next time - the pictures will be less wobbly (this one isn't too bad though!)

Driving Through The Fire Zone
They reopened the highway this morning before we had to come back to Vancouver, which meant we didn't need to take the long way around. It was still kind of creepy though. Inside those faint red circles are firefighters putting out ground fires and hot spots. We were happy to get through the fire zone.

Fire Watch
I picked Alex up from the airport just before 3:00 and there was no fire when I went out to the airport. When we came back, just as we came over the crest of hill at the back of East Kelowna, we could see a plume of smoke, but I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. My cousin and her family were among those evacuated and the winds have been horrible tonight. We're keeping our fingers crossed for all the Glenrosa residents and firefighters tonight.
UPDATE July 21: They let the first group of evacuees home today and they reopened the highways. People are still evacuated and other still on alert. There are now three fires burning on the west side of the lake.
UPDATE July 23: The Glenrosa fire and the Rose Valley fire are both 100% contained. The Fintry fire is growning, but there was rain today. Fingers crossed for everyone affected.

Matador Mix For Breakfast Please
Signe arrived from Denmark via Vancouver yesterday and she brought two ginormous bags of Matador Mix with her. J thought Matador Mix might make a better breakfast than Cheerios and peaches...smart kid!! Excuse the blurriness of the picture...
