J loves doing the crossword and the Sudoku in the paper and when we went out for a walk and a treat, she stopped to get a paper. She usually fills the crossword in using the previous day’s solution as a guide. I’m not sure how she decides what to do with the Sudoku….
Today is J’s last day at daycare. This morning while I was getting ready to rush out the door, the living room fell silent. J has had major mixed emotions about her departure from daycare and I wasn’t sure if the quiet was another meltdown brewing or what. This was the very pleasant surprise waiting for me when I stuck my head out the kitchen door! J has been reading out loud since the day we brought Baby C home from the hospital (I had suspected for a while that she was reading more words than she let on), but this is the first time I’ve seen her sit and read to her sister. It makes me happy.
It looks like I need to pay closer attention to Baby C….she sure is a long way from her blanket!
Baby C loves looking at the box J’s birthday Duplo came in…I’m pretty sure it won’t be long before she thinks she should be playing with it too!
At least that’s what she said. So I made one. And it was yummy, but J said it wasn’t the way daycare made it so maybe I should get the recipe from them!!
J is back! We all went for a walk after dinner and before bed. It’s a beautiful night, but there weren’t many people out. I guess it’s a sign that summer is coming to a close. One more week of summer and then J starts kindergarten! WOW!
Alex got this awesome fan as a birthday gift. I don’t know how we would have survived the heat this summer without it. It’s amazing!
J and C got some books from Australia in the mail today. C was pretty interested in the alphabet book.
Baby C was super cranky today and refused to nap…she finally fell asleep on our bed, so I got to have a rest too!
J is in Kelowna for the week, but we’re all wishing her a very happy birthday!
J requested a cake for her party with a rainbow and pink icing and flowers…and she got it! She loved the marshmallows. J has left for Kelowna for a week and all the pictures from her party are on my Dad’s camera…so the cake will have to do!
J’s grandpa came over today with some gifts for her birthday on Monday…she immediately got the colouring out and got to work!
J’s birthday is on Monday. J has no idea, but she’s going to Kelowna on Sunday, so we thought we’d do her birthday thing at daycare on Friday. Except a few kids were already doing their birthday things. So, we’re going to do it tomorrow. J didn’t want cake or cupcakes. She wanted Cheerio and cranberry squares. They are pretty tasty!
I love this picture. I really, truly love this picture. I love that J put her lens-less sunglasses on C, I love that C is clearly having the time of her life, I love that J is smiling her non-camera smile. I LOVE IT!
After last night’s storm, there were a few fires (not near us) and the light was decidedly orange this morning. J had to have one last swing before we went home. Goodbye Kelowna. See you at Thanksgiving.
There was a storm tonight. See those clouds? Well the storm was directly over the house for a few thunder claps…it was so close the windows and doors were rattling and I swear the floor was shaking!
We went out for pie and lemonade with a friend of my mom’s from university yesterday and she brought J her first Barbie. It’s a Snow White ballerina…and it’s shoes are painted on. I’ve been dreading stepping on Barbie heels…
Baby C has been waking up around 7…which is lovely! The coffee is usually set up the night before, so when I come down with her for her first bottle of the day, I flick the coffee maker on and get her bottle ready. Then we go sit outside on the deck and enjoy the quiet. J usually joins us around 8 and the two little ladies have a bit of a cuddle before we go in and get J’s breakfast which she usually brings out to the deck to eat too. We have to take advantage of eating outside since we can’t do that at our house!
We spent today and my great-aunt and uncle’s with our cousins. Don’t ask me if they are first or second or thirty-third. I also have no idea how many times removed we are. In our family, we just have cousins. J loved it! My cousin has four kids – three boys and a girl. The girl is 2 and the boys are 4, 6 and 8 and J and the 4 year old, H, LOVE each other. They had a great time and J was thrilled with her lunch – a hotdog, a smoothie AND a popsicle. What a great day!
We’re in Kelowna and I’m not sure who is happiest about it…me, J, or my parents. C is indifferent and Alex misses us already…
Baby C was playing on the floor and all of a sudden it was quite quiet…because she’d fallen asleep. She napped here for an hour and a half!
Now that we have moved the crib into J’s room, she has lost a lot of her space to hang out. She discovered that her chair fit perfectly in her closet and she can hide away from everything in there…so, until we have three bedrooms, this is J’s special space!
The girls and I fly up to Kelowna on Sunday and while we’re gone, the painter is coming in to get rid of the hideous pink walls…that we have lived with for five years. Whatever. They’re going. And once they are gone, we’re planning to sell our apartment, so the next few days are all about packing away anything that is not essential because after the painting, we will be staging. UGH!
